WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU

Second Chance Jobs HVRP

At Second Chance Jobs, our mission is to empower at risk of homelessness & homeless veterans by providing comprehensive workforce development and support services that lead to sustainable employment opportunities. Through our Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP), we aim to address the unique challenges faced by veterans transitioning from homelessness to stability by offering job readiness training, career counseling, and personalized resources. We are committed to helping our heroes reclaim their independence, rebuild their careers, and reintegrate successfully into civilian life, ensuring they receive the respect, resources, and opportunities they deserve.

 HVRP has two core objectives.

  • To provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into

meaningful employment within the labor force

  • To stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that

will address the complex problems facing homeless veterans.

Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) is an employment-focused competitive Federal grant program, providing assistance to veterans experiencing homelessness to reach their full employment potential and obtain high-quality career outcomes. HVRP supports veteran job seekers as they confront and overcome the barriers that prevent them from finding and retaining employment.

Our Team Is Ready To Help

Personalized Career Coaching
Building a Path to Success

At Second Chance Jobs, we believe that every veteran deserves a career plan tailored to their unique goals, experiences, and needs. Through our personalized career coaching, we provide one-on-one support to help veterans navigate the complexities of the job market and secure meaningful employment.

Our process begins with creating Individualized Employment Plans (IEPs) that outline clear, actionable steps toward achieving career success. We start by identifying each veteran’s skills, strengths, and aspirations, then align those with opportunities in industries that match their goals.

As part of our coaching, we assist with resume creation to ensure veterans effectively showcase their military experience and transferable skills in a way that resonates with civilian employers. We also provide interview preparation, helping participants build confidence, practice answering common questions, and highlight their strengths during job interviews.

Beyond job search support, our career coaching focuses on job retention strategies, equipping veterans with the tools to thrive in their new roles. This includes guidance on workplace communication, professionalism, and conflict resolution to help them build strong, lasting relationships with employers and coworkers.

Our team understands that finding a job is just the first step—building a sustainable, fulfilling career is the ultimate goal. That’s why we remain committed to providing personalized support, empowering veterans to take charge of their futures and achieve lasting success in their careers.

Skills Development and Training

Preparing for the Workforce and Beyond

At Second Chance Jobs, we understand that success in today’s workforce requires more than just landing a job—it’s about having the right skills and resources to thrive. That’s why we offer a wide range of skills development and training opportunities designed to empower veterans for long-term success in their careers and personal lives.

Our programs focus on building essential work skills, including industry-specific training, leadership development, and corporate readiness. Veterans are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to excel in their chosen fields, stand out as leaders, and adapt to the ever-evolving demands of the workplace. Leadership training prepares veterans to take on supervisory roles, while corporate readiness programs ensure they can navigate workplace environments with confidence and professionalism.

In addition to our in-house training, we partner with American Job Centers (AJCs) and other organizations to connect veterans to specialized resources and opportunities. These partnerships allow us to provide access to advanced certifications, hands-on training, and networking opportunities with industry leaders, opening doors to higher-paying jobs and long-term career growth.

To ensure every veteran can fully participate in training and job preparation, we provide practical resources like tablets and backpacks. These tools enable participants to access online training programs, conduct job searches, submit applications, and stay in constant communication with our team and potential employers. By removing barriers to technology and communication, we ensure that veterans can engage with opportunities no matter where they are.

Our skills development programs go beyond training for the next job—they prepare veterans to build a sustainable, fulfilling career and empower them to embrace their full potential in the workforce and beyond.

Overcoming Barriers to Employment

Removing Obstacles, Creating Opportunities

At Second Chance Jobs, we recognize that meaningful employment isn’t just about landing a job—it’s about addressing the challenges that often stand in the way of getting there. Many veterans face barriers that make securing and maintaining employment difficult, and that’s where our holistic approach comes in.

Our dedicated team works hand-in-hand with veterans to identify and tackle these barriers, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed. Whether it’s housing assistance, access to nutritious food, or affordable child care, we connect veterans to resources that stabilize their lives and set the stage for professional growth. For those navigating legal challenges, our justice-related services help veterans get back on their feet and into the workforce with confidence.

Reliable transportation is a key part of employment success, and we work with partner organizations as well as utilize funding to provide solutions such as providing bikes, bus passes, and Uber credits to help veterans get to interviews, training, and work. By removing transportation hurdles, we ensure that every veteran has the mobility they need to pursue and maintain employment opportunities.

Physical and mental health can also be significant obstacles to career success, which is why we partner with the VA & trusted organizations to offer access to comprehensive healthcare services, including mental health support. These services help veterans manage stress, heal from trauma, and build the resilience needed to thrive both personally and professionally.

Beyond these tangible supports, we invest in each veteran’s journey by providing ongoing coaching and encouragement, helping them navigate challenges as they arise.

Whether it’s overcoming self-doubt, bridging skills gaps, or solving unexpected problems, we’re here every step of the way to empower veterans to move forward.

At Second Chance Jobs, we don’t just open doors—we break down walls, creating opportunities for veterans to rise above barriers and build a brighter, more stable future. We’re not just a resource; we’re a partner in every veteran’s journey to success.

   WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU

Launching Careers with Confidence

At Second Chance Jobs, we understand that success in a new career requires more than just landing a job—it’s about having the resources, tools, and support to thrive from day one. That’s why our Job Readiness Support program is designed to ensure veterans are fully prepared to step into their new roles with confidence and stability.

We provide up to $250 for work-related clothing and gear, helping veterans remove financial barriers to starting their new jobs. Whether it’s professional attire for office positions, uniforms for specialized roles, steel-toed boots for trades, or essential tools for the job, we ensure every veteran is equipped with what they need to succeed. Having these essentials not only sets them up for day one but also gives them a sense of pride and confidence as they begin their career.

To further support veterans, we supply tablets and backpacks as part of job seeking & transition to employment. These tools are invaluable for staying connected with co-workers, employers, and our coaching team. Veterans can use their tablets to access online training, collaborate on workplace tools, and apply for promotions or advanced opportunities within their companies. This connectivity empowers veterans to continue learning, growing, and advancing in their careers.

Transportation is another critical component of job readiness. We offer practical solutions, such as bikes, bus passes, and Uber credits, to ensure veterans have reliable transportation to work. These resources help eliminate one of the most common barriers to maintaining employment and ensure veterans can focus on excelling in their new roles without worrying about how to get there.

Our support doesn’t stop at practical resources. We also provide coaching and guidance to help veterans build the skills needed to excel in their workplaces, such as time management, workplace communication, and teamwork. By addressing both logistical needs and personal development, we prepare veterans to succeed not just in their first weeks but for the long term.

Through this comprehensive approach, Second Chance Jobs equips veterans with everything they need to launch their careers with confidence—removing barriers, providing essential tools, and offering ongoing support to help them build a brighter, more stable future.

Ongoing Support & Coaching

A Partner for the Journey

At Second Chance Jobs, our mission goes far beyond simply connecting veterans with employment opportunities. We are committed to being their partner for the long haul, offering ongoing support and coaching throughout their first year of employment to ensure their success and long-term stability.

Starting a new job can bring its own set of challenges, from navigating a new workplace culture to overcoming unexpected barriers. Our dedicated coaching team is always available to offer personalized guidance and motivation, helping veterans build confidence and tackle these obstacles head-on. Whether it’s advice on handling workplace dynamics, strategies to address performance challenges, or simply a source of encouragement, we are here to support veterans every step of the way.

We understand that life doesn’t stop after securing a job. Issues like transportation, family responsibilities, or health concerns can still arise. That’s why we provide proactive problem-solving and connect veterans with resources to address these challenges as they occur. From assisting with transportation solutions, such as bus passes or Uber credits, to connecting veterans with childcare, housing, or mental health services through our partner organizations, our team ensures that participants can focus on excelling in their new roles without unnecessary distractions.

Our ongoing support also includes upskilling and career development opportunities. Through our coaching, veterans are encouraged to pursue additional training, certifications, and leadership roles that align with their career aspirations. We empower them to not only retain their current job but also to advance within their organization, building a pathway to long-term career growth.

This comprehensive, year-long coaching ensures that no veteran feels unsupported or alone as they navigate their new career journey. At Second Chance Jobs, we’re more than a stepping stone—we’re a committed partner invested in helping veterans achieve their goals, overcome challenges, and build a future filled with stability and success. By staying by their side, we ensure that each veteran’s journey is not just a job—it’s a life-changing opportunity.

Our Why

At Second Chance Jobs, our mission is rooted in gratitude and a deep commitment to those who have served our country. Over the years, we’ve proudly supported hundreds of veterans in their journey toward meaningful employment and self-sufficiency.

Veteran employment is a cornerstone of what we do. Our Director, Deborah Slaven, is passionately dedicated to helping veterans transition successfully into civilian careers.

For Deborah, this mission is personal—her family’s history is rich with stories of service in the Navy, Army, and Air Force. These stories have shaped her drive to honor and support the men and women who have given so much for our nation.

Through the HVRP (Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program) grant, Second Chance Jobs is able to provide veterans with tailored resources, job training, and career placement services. This program not only helps veterans gain employment but also empowers them to build stable, sustainable futures.
